However, a new study has given an interesting report about how to stave off dementia in elderly people. Believe or not, drinking hot chocolate daily might be is the solution.
The study report published on Neurology in Aug 7, 2013 pointed out that elderly people who drank two cups of hot cocoa daily for a month, turn out they have given better results on memory tests than those who didn't. Besides, the brain imaging showed hot chocolate drinkers had a better blood vessel function in the brain.
Dr. Sorond and her teammate examined 60 participants age 72 or older and they asked them to drink two cups of hot cocoa in daily basis for 30 days, and other participants not consume hot cocoa throughout the study. When the study began, there were found 18 participants had impaired blood flow.
The result showed improvement in brain function and blood flow after drinking cocoa on a regular basis than those who didn't. This study proposes to help older people at risk of developing dementia, based on the data of their research.
