What is The Meaning of Information?

The meaning  of information
is an explication, illumination or news that important to be revealed. The information forms are news, articles, books, discourse and much more that you can find in this age. Information has three characteristics are useful, enlightening and interesting.


Oxford dictionary has explained the meaning of information as the facts for notified, heard or found from someone. In broad outline, the information is the knowledge gained from someone.


The information is useful for decision maker, because it reduces uncertainty (increasing the knowledge). Processing the collected data and facts are the result of information with certain ways as a method to know the objective condition.

Gordon B. Davis, "Information is data that has been processed into a form that is meaningful to the recipient and useful for decision-making current or future"
George H. Bodnar, "Information is data processed so that it can be used as a basis for taking the right decision"
McFadden, defines information as data that has been processed in such a way as to increase the knowledge of someone who is using the data.

Generally, the information can be defined as the result of data processing in a form that is more useful and more meaningful to the recipients, which are the real events that used for decision-making.


The source of information is data.

Data is the facts or realities that sourced from events and real unity. The events are something happened on particular time. Real unity is in the form of a tangible object such as places, objects and people really exist and happen.

Data was called as still raw form; it requires to be processed further, because the data couldn’t  show anything yet. Data has forms such as letter symbols, numbers, pictures, voices, etc; which processed pass through a method to create the information.



The quality of information based on the following conditions.

1. Accuracy and verified: Information should be free of mistakes and not misleading.
2. Perfection of information: Information presented without subtraction, addition, and alteration.
3. Punctuality: Information presented in a timely manner, as a basis for decision-making.
4. Relevance: Information will have a high value of benefits, if those people in need can receive the information.
